Competent Bodies for the Operation of the MSc High Risk Pregnancy

The competent bodies for the operation of the MSc High Risk Pregnancy, in accordance with Law 4957/2022, are the following:

At institutional level, the competent bodies are the Postgraduate Studies Committee and the Senate.

At the level of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the competent body is the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA.

The responsibilities of the Assembly are to:

a) recommend to the Senate, through the Postgraduate Studies Committee, the necessity of establishing an MSc Programme, as well as the extension of the duration of the MSc Programme;

b) appoint the Director and the members of the Coordinating Committee of each MSc Programme of the Medical School of NKUA;

c) recommend representatives for the appointment of the Programme Committees of Interdepartmental or Interinstitutional MSc Programmes in which the Medical School of NKUA participates;

d) establish Committees for the evaluation of applications submitted by candidate postgraduate students and approve their enrolment in the MSc Programme;

e) assign teaching duties among the teaching staff of the MSc Programme and may assign auxiliary teaching duties in MSc Programmes to doctoral candidates of the Department or School, under the supervision of a teacher of the MSc Programme;

f) establish examination committees for the assessment of postgraduate theses and appoint the supervisor for each thesis;

g) confirm the successful completion of studies and award the Postgraduate Diploma;

h) approve the report of the MSc Programme, following a recommendation by the Coordinating Committee;

i) assign postgraduate students auxiliary teaching duties in first-cycle study programmes of the Department;

j) exercise any other lawful competence.

By decision of the Department Assembly, the responsibilities under points d) and f) may be delegated to the Coordinating Committee of the MSc Programme.

Coordinating Committee

The Coordinating Committee consists of the Director of the MSc Programme and four members of the teaching and research staff of the Medical School of NKUA and/or emeritus professors, whose academic field is relevant to that of the MSc Programme and who undertake teaching duties in the Programme. The members of the Coordinating Committee are appointed by decision of the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA.

The Coordinating Committee is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the operation of the Programme and, in particular, for:

a) preparing the initial annual budget of the MSc Programme and any amendments thereto, provided that the Programme has resources, and recommending its approval to the Research Committee of the Special Account for Research Funds;

b) preparing the Programme report and recommending its approval to the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA;

c) approving the expenditure of the MSc Programme;

d) approving the granting of scholarships, whether reciprocal or not, in accordance with the provisions of the decision establishing the MSc Programme and the Regulation for Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies;

e) recommending to the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA the allocation of teaching duties, as well as the assignment of teaching duties;

f) recommending to the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA the invitation of Visiting Professors to cover the teaching needs of the MSc Programme;

g) preparing a draft amendment to the curriculum, which is submitted to the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA;

h) recommending to the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA the redistribution of courses among the academic semesters, as well as matters related to the quality enhancement of the curriculum.

Director of the MSc Programme

The Director of the MSc Programme is selected from among the members of the teaching and research staff of the Department, preferably at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, and is appointed by decision of the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA for a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal without limitation.

The Director of the MSc Programme has the following responsibilities:

a) chairs the Coordinating Committee, prepares the agenda and convenes its meetings;

b) submits recommendations to the Assembly of the Medical School of NKUA on matters concerning the organization and operation of the MSc Programme;

c) submits recommendations to the Coordinating Committee and to the other bodies of the MSc Programme and the University on matters related to the effective operation of the MSc Programme;

d) acts as the Scientific Coordinator of the Programme and exercises the corresponding responsibilities;

e) monitors the implementation of the decisions of the bodies of the MSc Programme and of the Internal Regulation for Postgraduate and Doctoral Study Programmes, as well as the execution of the MSc Programme budget;

f) exercises any other competence provided for in the decision establishing the MSc Programme.

The Director of the MSc Programme, as well as the members of the Coordinating Committee, are not entitled to remuneration or any form of compensation for the performance of the duties assigned to them in relation to their responsibilities.

Secretariat Support of the MSc Programme

a) The Secretariat of the Department is responsible for the secretarial and administrative support of the MSc Programme.

b) If the MSc Programme has its own resources, it may recruit, in accordance with the applicable legislation, external collaborators for secretarial and administrative support, who remain under the supervision of the Secretariat of the Medical School of NKUA.
